"Nubia is the mother of Egypt" John Jackson
Nubia: Ancient and Supreme
The Nubian civilization, although sometimes called prehistoric because there is no written record that we understand, was quite an advanced culture.
Physically and geographically, the land that was ancient Nubia has not changed much today.
The Kushites valued the role of women and had many queens and high positions for women.
Nubia and Egypt interacted as equals. Many of the ideas that some scholars had attributed to Egypt seem, instead, to have originated in Nubia. For example, the idea of a monarchy, royalty, queenship, totem and an afterlife similar to physical life on earth.
The creativity of the ancient Africans is exemplified by the ancient Nubians in their strategy for using the six major cataracts of the Nile to their advantage. The Nubians set up a long string of villages all along the Nile, maintaining communication with each other and keeping watch for invading enemies.
Taharka's African attitude of pride in his achievements was exceeded only by that of his mother, who travelled almost 1935 kilometres to attend her son's coronation as king.
Reflections:
Imagine you are tasked to choose a memorial to celebrate ancient African leaders.Which of the ancient Classical buildings would inspire you and why?
What ancient structure would you choose and why?
What ancient leader would be memorialized by your building?
