Activity : Getting To Know You Box

What you need to know:

* Use your creativity to decorate a shoebox or any box close to the size of a shoebox. You can use anything to cover your box; fabric, wallpaper, pictures, paint etc. Be prepared to speak about your choices.

* Find 7 items to place inside your box, which tells about you and the SEVEN PRINCIPLES .Only Umoja item needed for week one.

ITEMS …Here are some ideas

1. UMOJA~UNITY: To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race. Something that tells about your family, e.g. a picture

2. KUJICHAGULIA~SELF – DETERMINATION: To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves.

Something that tells about your accomplishments, goals e.g. an award, an original piece

3. UJIMA~COLLECTIVE WORK & RESPONSIBILITY: To build and maintain our community together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together. Something that tells about your working together with others, e.g. Group membership

4. UJAMMA~COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS: To build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together.

Something that reflects your support given to Africentric businesses or services, e.g. Creams, oils, business cards, Kente Sash.

5. NIA~PURPOSE: To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.

Something that tells your interest in our history, e.g. historical picture, book, historical fact

6. KUUMBA~CREATIVITY: To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.

Something that tells about your special talents e.g. An original piece, art, photo,

7. IMANI~ FAITH: To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

Something that tells about your motivation e.g. a quote, symbol, book, object.
